“Gun control is the idea that it’s better to see a woman dead in an alley, strangled
with her own pantyhose, than to see her with a gun in her hand.”—T.D. Melrose

Idiots Three
by L. Neil Smith
This week ended on a kind of jarring, surrealistic note, when a pair of politicians exposed themselves as pathetic morons to the entire country and the world. And people say there’s no truth in government.

More Gun Lies Your Leaders Are Telling You
by L. Reichard White
To start with, as per the Standard Anti-Self-Defense Handbook—and using the so-far unexplained Las Vegas shooting spree as the latest platform—the usual Second Amendment scoff-laws still prominently include firearm suicides in their gun-death tally. Thank goodness folks deprived of guns won't use overdoses, tranquilizers-plus-booze, carbon monoxide, razor blades, poison, etc.—and bridges, tall buildings, and open windows for jumping—if they can't get guns!

Condolences
by J. Neil Schulman
My deepest sympathies go out to Donald. J. Trump. Not to the President of the United States, who is a crat. But Mr. Trump, who I liked for years as star of The Apprentice and The Celebrity Apprentice, made the worst decision of his life in deciding to give up show biz for politics and doing it in a spectacular reality-TV coup of starting out his political career as President.

Libertarianism and the Alt-Right
In Search of a Libertarian Strategy for Social Change

by Hans-Hermann Hoppe
We know the fate of the term liberal and liberalism. It has been affixed to so many different people and different positions that it has lost all its meaning and become an empty, non-descript label. The same fate now increasingly also threatens the term libertarian and libertarianism that was invented to regain some of the conceptual precision lost with the demise of the former labels.

Review of Crowley: Thoughts and Perspectives
by Sean Gabb
It was late one afternoon, more years ago than I care to admit. I was working as an estate agent in South London, when an old beggar woman came into the front office. “Cross my palm with silver, Dearie,” she croaked in a strong Irish accent.

Americans Should Be Proud to Love Firearms … and Freedom
by Vin Suprynowicz
At one of the local thrift shops this week I picked up the fifth ever weekly issue of Sports Illustrated — Sept. 13, 1954. The magazine has one major article, each, on college football (no NFL — my dad reported the pro league was still considered largely disreputable back then, sort of like professional wrestling); baseball; auto racing; boxing (Rocky Marciano vs. Ezzard Charles), mountain-climbing, hunting, and spearfishing. Only one sport in that fledgling “Time, Inc.” product of 60 years ago merited THREE MAJOR FEATURES: A feature with color photos on American skeet team captain (and Cuban native) Carola Mandel; a second feature on 13-year-old trapshooter Johnny Lilly winning the under-21 Grand American Handicap Tournament in Vandalia, Ohio (thousands attended); and a major flashback piece to the Great Rifle Match of 1874 between the U.S. and Ireland, shot at ranges out to 1,000 yards, and won — after they ran neck-and-neck all day — on the last shot.
