Stupid Is As Stupid Does
by L. Neil Smith
I'm not too good with Facebook. Yesterday I got a note, short and to the point, that said something like, "This is the most stupid thing I've ever read." I could be wrong, but I think he was referring to my essay, "Suppose You Were Fond Of Books ... " which has been circulating on the Web again lately. It's an old friend and I'm happy to see it. When I went back again this morning, I couldn't find the message. Like I said, I'm not too good with Facebook.

Me Versus Me
by J. Neil Schulman
I'm the author of twelve books, articles, essays, poetry, and screenwriting. I've written, produced, and directed two feature-length movies. I've blogged, commented, Facebooked, texted and tweeted, starting in small print publications, later in computer network chats and bulletin boards, and still later when the World Wide Web took over channeling messages.

The Social Justice Trap
by Sean Gangol
Recently I have noticed that there is something that may cause division in the Libertarian movement if we don't nip it in the bud right away. There has always been somewhat of a division between the limited government libertarians, also known as miniarchists and anarchic libertarians. Usually the arguments start when an anarchic libertarian accuses a miniarchists of not being a true libertarian and even going as far as calling him a statist. Basically it's part of the whole "No True Scotsman Fallacy", where someone will say that no true Scotsman puts sugar on his porridge, which is a fallacy because it has no actual bearing on whether a person was born or raised in Scotland.

Suppose You Were Fond of Books
by L. Neil Smith
Suppose you were fond of books ... You liked their leather bindings, their fancy endpapers, the way they speak to you of other times and places, the way they feel in your hand. You even liked the way they smell. Naturally you were aware that books are dangerous. They give people ideas.

A message from The Publisher:

The headline reads: "Obama Administration and UN Announce 'GLOBAL POLICE FORCE' to fight 'Extremism' in US CITIES" and it is a clear sign that it's time for the US to withdraw from the UN and to kick the UN the hell out of North America. I propose that you contact every conservative and libertarian group and publication you know, and encourage them to use The Libertarian Enterprise as a clearing-house for this effort. It's time we got our *stuff* together and got rid of the anti-freedom, anti-American UN. Write to TLE editor Ken Holder at

Libertarian economist Doug Casey has an interesting essay about the Greater Depression, called "The Deep State" recently reprinted at

To refresh your memory, let me recount what a depression is.

The best general definition is: A period of time when most people's standard of living drops significantly. By that definition, the Greater Depression started in 2008, although historians may someday say it began in 1971, when real wages started falling.

It's also a period of time when distortions and misallocations of capital are liquidated, and when the business cycle, which is caused exclusively by currency debasement, also known as inflation, climaxes. That results in high unemployment, business failures, uncompleted construction, bond defaults, stock market crashes, and the like.

Fortunately, for those who benefit from the status quo, and members of something called the Deep State, the trillions of new currency units delayed the liquidation. But they also ensured it will now happen on a much grander scale.

The Deep State is an extremely powerful network that controls nearly everything around you. You won't read about it in the news because it controls the news. Politicians won't talk about it publicly. That would be like a mobster discussing murder and robbery on the 6 o'clock news. You could say the Deep State is hidden, but it's only hidden in plain sight.
