The Third Sentence
by A.X. Perez
With the Second and Fourth of July coming up it is worth remembering what exactly the Declaration of Independence is all about. The Declaration of Independence is a document stating why the Americans were rebelling against British Rule and why they were justified in doing so. In doing so Mr. Jefferson summed up the Social Contract Theory in three sentences, some of the greatest rhetoric in human history.

Flag Banning
by J. Neil Schulman
I'm a native New Yorker. Had I been alive in the past centuries with my current beliefs I would have been a slavery Abolitionist and if possible both an activist in the Underground Railroad smuggling slaves to freedom in Canada and an agitator for slave rebellions against slaveholders in states where slavery was legal.

Josie Wales—Would Kick Dylan Storm's, Bitchy Little Ass
by Sean N. Gruber
It doesn't take much of a man to walk into a church and shoot a bunch of unarmed people. (I wish Josie Wales would have been there. I don't think Dylan would have survived.) It also doesn't take much of a man to use a lunatics actions, as a justification to rape people's rights. And I'm not sure what it makes someone when they can't even wait for the bodies to cool before they have a plan on how to use those deaths for their political profit.

The United States of America

So what do we call the thing that remains in Washington City and in our way everywhere? I suggest "The Newnited Snakes of America"—at least until something better suggests itself.

Am I over-reacting to the rulling that words don't mean what they actually say, but mean something else which the majority of the court says is desirable? If a law is badly written, it is not unconstitutional, it just needs the Court to rewrite it for Congress. No extra charge.

It seems "exchange established by the state" means something else other than what it says. Of course, I never went to law school, I took courses in logic instead. Silly me?

See The Abolition of Man by C.S. Lewis for more on this.

Reguarding "Sticky Fingers" by L. Neil Smith (Issue 825) Mr. Smith reports that the problem turns out to be confusion and messages passing in the night, and all is now resolved to everyone's satisfaction.
